Cost: $10 ($20 for both April workshops)
In this harmony repertoire class we will teach two songs in the style of two of our favorite female duos: The Silly Sisters (June Tabor and Maddy Prior) and Kathy & Carol (Kathy Larisch and Carol McComb.) Both duos have challenged and pushed at the “norms” of harmony singing, and the result is magical and haunting. We will teach “A Swallow Song,” written in 1964by Richard and Fariña, and “The Burning of Auchindoun,” (Also known as Willie McIntosh, Child 183). These songs will be technically challenging, and will demonstrate voice crossing, unison, melody trading, and dissonance.
Any and all abilities are welcome! We will be doing some serious listening at the beginning of class to internalize these songs before we dive in, and we will teach all parts slowly note for note. We will be teaching everything by ear, and recordings will be provided. We will be doing all singing as a group in a relaxed and welcoming space. The workshop will begin with vocal warm ups, and if there is time we may demonstrate some two-part harmony singing techniques.
LIMITED SPACE: RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org to save a spot.
